REV. DR. MARY JANE HITT
PASTOR

Rev. Dr. Mary Jane Hitt came to Scranton, PA in 2001  to serve as
pastor of Providence United Presbyterian Church.  A former
administrator in the President’s Office of West Virginia University,
Rev. Hitt left higher education in 1997 to pursue a call to ministry,
studying theology at Duke Divinity School.  In addition to serving
full-time as a local church pastor, she teaches a religion class at
Marywood University, advises a Protestant student organization
there, and serves on the board of various civic and religious
organizations.  In 1995, she was the first woman to be elected president of the Morgantown, West Virginia Rotary Club. 

Mary Jane’s husband of 37 years, Bill, a dentist, directs the Ed Dulworth Dental Clinic at the Scranton Primary Health Center in Scranton.  They have two grown children, Than (a research scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey) and Amanda (a marriage and family therapist), and two grandchildren.
